Samish Bay closed to recreational shellfish harvesters due to Red Tide
(SKAGIT COUNTY)- Due to a recent sample of shellfish that contained elevated levels of Paralytic Shellfish Toxin (Red Tide), the Washington State Department of Health has closed Samish Bay to recreational shellfish harvesting. The closure was announced today, Sept. 26, 2018. Samish Bay will remain closed until additional sampling indicates toxin levels have declined.
Early symptoms of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning include numbness and tingling around the lips and some loss of motor control. If you have any of these symptoms after eating shellfish, have someone take you to the emergency room immediately or call 911 for assistance.
