Vehicle - pedestrian fatality collision in Mount Vernon

(MOUNT VERNON)- According to a Mount Vernon Police Department press release, officers responded to reports of a vehicle / pedestrian collision in the 3000 block of East Division Street around 3:30 a.m. on Monday. Initial reports indicated a male pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and was in the westbound lane of travel.

On arrival, officers and medical crews determined the pedestrian, a 35-year old Mount Vernon man, was deceased.

Detectives with Mount Vernon Police and Washington State Patrol were called to the scene for the investigation. The adult female driver of the involved vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Evidence and witness statements indicate the pedestrian may have been kneeling or laying in the westbound lane of travel at the time he was struck by the vehicle. It’s unclear why the man was in the roadway.

The on-scene investigation was concluded just before 7 a.m., and the roadway was re-opened.
