(MOUNT VERNON)- In honor of Veterans Day, Mount Vernon High School will host its 1st Annual Veterans Day Luncheon on Wednesday, November 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Veterans from throughout Skagit County are warmly invited to attend as honored guests and share their experiences with students, according to a news release.
RSVPs are required due to limited space. Local veterans who would like to participate are encouraged to register in advance by emailing MVHS staff coordinator Kiera Wright at kwright@mvsd320.org or by completing the online form at https://forms.gle/hnxFvSXT3DCfRQnG8.
The luncheon, catered by COA Mexican Eatery, will feature a buffet lunch, desserts donated by True North Bakery and Schuh Farms, and beverages. All participants, students and veterans alike, are encouraged to arrive by 1 p.m. and stay for the duration of the event.
“This luncheon is a way for our students to connect directly with local veterans and learn from their experiences in a personal and meaningful way,” said Kiera Wright, Mount Vernon High School staff organizer. “It’s not about ceremonies or speeches – it’s about genuine conversations that help students understand what service really means and how it shapes people’s lives.”
The event provides students with a unique opportunity to hear firsthand stories of military service, learn about life in the armed forces, and gain inspiration from those who have served – many of whom will share experiences meant to encourage young adults considering military careers after high school or college.
No formal presentations are planned; the focus is on conversation, connection, and appreciation.
