Mount Vernon Police responded to a fatality collision on Sunday night
(MOUNT VERNON)- According to a news release from the Mount Vernon Police Department, police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of S. 15th Street and E. Kincaid Street on Sunday evening at 8:16 p.m. Initial reports indicated two vehicles were involved, and an occupant of one vehicle had possibly been ejected.
On arrival, officers located a severely injured patient outside one of the vehicles and initiated life-savings efforts, until medical crews arrived. The patient, a 61-year old Mount Vernon man, was later pronounced dead by medical staff.
Detectives with Mount Vernon Police and Washington State Patrol were called to the scene for the investigation.
Evidence indicates the suspect driver was westbound on Kincaid Street in a pick-up truck, and failed to stop at the intersection with S. 15th Street. The pick-up struck the driver’s side of a second vehicle traveling south on 15th Street. The force of the collision spun both vehicles and the rear passenger of the second vehicle was ejected.
The driver and another passenger of the second vehicle were medically treated and later released with minor injuries.
The driver of the pick-up truck, a 50-year old Marysville man, was detained at the scene for investigation of DUI. He was later transported to the SV Hospital for a blood draw, and then booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center, for investigation of Vehicular Homicide.
The roadway was re-opened for traffic just after midnight.
