(SULTAN)– A project that aims to improve safety along the US 2 corridor between Monroe and Gold Bar will begin Monday, Oct. 5.
Utility crews working with contractors will alternate traffic at the intersection of US 2 and Old Owen Road/Fern Bluff Road in Sultan from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, Monday, Oct. 5, until Wednesday morning, Oct. 7. This work supports a future roundabout, according to a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation.
People traveling through this area on US 2 should expect delays through the end of February 2027, when roundabout construction is complete. During construction of the roundabout, traffic will use a new bypass lane and a temporary traffic signal through the work site.
This project will make pedestrian and road safety improvements at 11 locations along a 15-mile section of US 2 between Fryelands Boulevard in Monroe and First Street in Gold Bar. Construction is scheduled to wrap up at the end of 2027.
US 2 is one of only three year-round highways across Washington's Cascade Mountain range and plays a vital role in the state's transportation infrastructure.
